Care Instructions
This guide outlines the proper care and preservation of your Wings and Wonder Collection Specimen.
Each Wings & Wonder Collection specimen is preserved using professional entomological techniques and archival, acid-free materials to ensure long-term stability. Frames and domes are sealed to create a controlled protective environment, shielding the specimen from dust, pests, moisture and environmental fluctuations.
With proper care, your specimen can remain preserved and beautiful for decades.
Display Environment
Specimens should be displayed indoors, away from direct sunlight. UV light gradually breaks down natural pigments and structural colour over time, which may cause fading if exposed for prolonged periods.
A cool, dry and stable environment is ideal. Avoid areas prone to humidity, moisture or temperature fluctuations, such as bathrooms, kitchens, window ledges or near heaters and air conditioning vents. Excess moisture can encourage mould growth and create conditions that may compromise the specimen’s preservation.
These precautions help maintain the stable internal environment the frame or dome was designed to protect.
Handling
Your specimen has been permanently set and sealed for preservation. Handle gently and only when necessary.
Always lift domes by the base, never by the glass. Frames should be held securely by the outer frame.
Avoid dropping, shaking or frequently repositioning the piece. Preserved insects are naturally delicate and excessive movement may cause irreversible damage to fine structures such as wings and antennae.
Once placed, it is best left undisturbed.
Cleaning
Clean the exterior glass only, using a soft, dry micro fibre cloth.
Do not use water, sprays or chemical cleaners. Liquids and fumes may penetrate the enclosure and disrupt the carefully controlled preservation environment.
Preservation Integrity
Each piece is sealed to protect against dust, moisture, mites and dermestid beetles, which are known to damage preserved insect specimens.
This seal is essential to maintaining the specimen’s condition. Opening or tampering with the frame or dome compromises this protective environment and releases Wings & Wonder Collection from responsibility for the specimen’s preservation thereafter.
Natural Characteristics
These are real preserved insects and minor asymmetry, small imperfections or natural variation are normal and part of their authenticity.
Over extended periods, gradual and natural ageing may occur. This is an inherent and unavoidable characteristic of preserved natural history specimens and does not indicate a fault in preservation.
These preservation methods reflect established entomological standards used in private collections and professional displays.
